Out with the old, in with the new

I'll have a couple free hours over the next few weeks, so I have decided to upgrade my Linux box at home to RedHat Fedora Core 4. The software on it was really out of date (Firefox 1.0.4, Thunderbird 0.9, MySQL 4.0, OpenOffice 1.0, etc.), so instead of updating everything I figured I'd go the extra step and do everything. Tonight I am spending a couple hours downloading ISO images and burning them to CD. Stay tuned for the progress...

I ditched Fedora Core 4 in favour of Centos 4.0. The enterprise linux clones are much more stable than fedora, and they are likely to run the widest variety of software in a pseudo-supported way.

Cheers

I thought of doing slackware, but I use RedHat EL at work so I wanted to get the same experience. Maybe I'll ditch it if I find it unstable...

Thats what Whitebox Linux and Centos are for.

They *are* redhat just with branding removed

No hardware issues during setup. I've been warned that updates come out very often so it's a lot like running Windoz. We'll see...
