WEP #2

Some people just don't get it. I'm here at a laundromat and working on a post for my blog when my wireless icon tells me I'm connected to "linksys-secure". Secure. Yeah right.

Heh heh heh. When people talk about how insecure WEP is, it reminds me of the story about the two hikers meeting a bear -- when one of them starts changing into his running shoes the other says, "You can't outrun a bear", to which the reply is, "I don't have to outrun the bear -- I just have to outrun you".

There are so many soft home wireless targets out there that the standard for good-enough encryption is a really easy standard to meet.

last summer I was watching my daughter in a soccer tournament. Out sitting in a field with a long break. Out comes the laptop and up goes the aircard (verizon network). Someone see's me and laughs and says "ah, someone in those townhomes has an open network do they?" I say "no, usnig aircard", but was curious.

I had 5 or 6 networks to choose from when I looked! All unsecured. Everytime I'm in an airport or hotel - there are many unsecured ad-hoc networks available too.

Sitting here in my garden I can see three networks - only one is mine! Still my one is more secure than the other two ;)

Hey Pete, if you can see it, it ain't secure! You're not broadcasting your SSID are you?
