I truly believe that you can get great advice from the community at large in technology matters. I, myself, have received lots of advice from quality sites and qualified people over the years. The first time I posted on c.d.o.s I received a reply from some guy named Tom Kyte that suggested I use a new feature of Oracle 8 called "Instead-of" triggers.
I try to make a meaningful contribution where I can. I think there's a lot of people out there that foster this commuity spirit. That's why I was a little frustrated when I saw Tim Hall's blog this morning. Here's a guy who has more than enough things to do and is working on a draft article on how you might install Oracle on FC5 that happens to get indexed by Google. And then he gets lambasted in the newsgroups. Not cool. Not cool at all....

Jeff: Just to be clear, I had not released this document. It was a work-in-progress that got indexed by Google. Also it clearly stated it was a draft article.
Anyway, thanks for the support. I'm not feeling quite so moody now :)
Cheers
Tim...
duly noted.
Wouldn't you consider a document available on the internet released? What's the purpose of putting a draft article on the internet?
I write lots of articles, and at one time or another, all of them get generated onto the filesystem in various states of completion.
My problem is not that people might read them, it is that I don't expect to get criticised when somebody stumbles upon an unfinished article, that clearly states it is a draft version.
As I mentioned elsewhere, the article in question was never placed on my "Latest Articles" section, was never included in my RSS feed and was clearly marked as a draft version. To *me* that means it was not released.
Cheers
Tim...
I find it quite hard to believe that there are I/T people today that do not recognize and understand the word "draft". But I guess there are all kinds ;-D. Surprised at some of the names there that were criticizing Tim, very surprised. Chin up Tim, you're doing a great job (as are you, Jeff).
And I can't believe people are reading (and following) anything and everything they find via Google. What ever happened to evaluating the information for applicability?
